Welcome to the LMMS Bands
Mr. Anthony R. Simons, Director of Bands and Instrumental Music
The Instrumental Music program at Lower Macungie Middle School provides students many opportunities to participate within several curricular and extra-curricular ensembles. Students participate in small lesson groups, as well as either the Sixth Grade Band, Seventh and Eighth Grade Band, Marching Band or String Orchestra. Emphasis is placed on learning a wide variety of quality instrumental music literature in preparation for concert performances and parades, as well as continued development of group skills.
Smaller ensembles include the LMMS Jazz Band, and chamber music ensembles such as the Flute Ensemble, Clarinet Ensemble, Woodwind Trio, Saxophone Ensemble, Brass Ensemble and Percussion Ensemble. They are developed during the spring semester, consist of the most advanced instrumental students, and perform in concert. The main focus of these ensembles is to grow as a solo performer, as typically only one or two players are responsible for each part. Students experience musical literature typical of their instrument and gain knowledge of a variety of different styles of music.
Instrumental Music Instruction for Woodwind, Brass and Percussion students consists of small like-instrument group and/or individual instruction in a half-hour lesson setting once per cycle. All students involved in instrumental music further their individual skills in these lesson groups. Limited openings exist for beginning instrumental music study depending on the need to balance instrumentation in our performing ensembles.
Please e-mail Mr. Simons with any questions regarding the program.
