For the 2014-2015 School Year
Unless a student is absent from class, all work is completed in class. Extra time is given in school to complete assignments. All students need to keep a separate folder for this class. All assignments are graded and returned. Further, all tests, quizzes, writing assignments, and projects are also returned to the students. These items should be kept in their folders along with any hand-outs.
THIRD QUARTER - SECOND HALF
MARCH 2-31- We will begin the second half of the third quarter with a short story unit. Students will read a series of short stories. There will be questions, class discussions, and a quiz at the end. During the week of March 11th, students will also be starting the third novel for the year titled Surviving the Applewhites by Stephanie Tolan. The first quiz for this novel will be after chapter seven. That quiz is scheduled for Monday, March 16th. The second quiz for this novel will be after chapter sixteen; the exact date will be posted later. All students have received a character list and a family tree. The quiz will consist of questions from these study guides, notes, and information discussed in class. The second quiz will be on March 27th. The unit test on the entire book will be on Thursday, April 9th. The two quizzes will be included with the other assessments for the third quarter, but the unit test grade will be added to the grades for the fourth quarter.
FOURTH QUARTER - After the Applewhites unit test, students will work on completing practice PSSA writing prompts. We will review the literary terms and other necessary information so that they are better prepared for these state assessments. At the conclusion of the PSSA's, we will begin the novel entitled The Executioner, by Jay Bennett. There will be quizzes and a unit test for this novel as well as graded writing assignments.
