HOW TO PICK A GOOD FIT BOOK
The acronym I-PICK is taught to the children to teach them the tools they need to enable them to pick a book that is a good fit for them. The very best way to grow as a reader is to spend lots of time reading, and the majority of that time needs to be with a good fit book. The following are the tools the children will be learning to use over the course of the school year:
I choose a book
P urpose-Why do I want to read the book?
I nterest- Does this book interest me?
C omprehend- Am I understanding what I am reading?
K now- I know most of the words
Please encourage your child to use this strategy when choosing books at home or at their local library.
5 FINGER RULE
Having a variety of good-fit books for all children is a vital piece to creating independence in the classroom. I have worked hard over the past two years to obtain books for my third graders. I am asking all parent to please keep our classroom in mind when you are cleaning out bookshelves at home. Donations are greatly appreciated! I am mostly in need of books on a 3rd and 4th grade level. You can always use the Teacher Wizard Website by Scholastic to check reading levels of books. Thank you so much, in advance, for your support!!!!!
