Language Arts

Our Language Arts period consists of a variety of components. Students will practice reading, writing, vocabulary, spelling, grammar, fluency, and comprehension to name a few. Every week we have a theme that coinsides with the stories we will be reading. Students will work on these different skills as they continue to become the best readers they can possibly be!

Another component of Language Arts is Guided Reading. Guided Reading involves working with students in small groups on their instructional reading level. Students are assessed to find their DRA (Developmental Reading Assessment) Reading Level. This DRA Level helps the teacher to select books that are at each student's instrucitonal level. Students are constantly being reassessed as their reading abilities continue to progress. In our classroom, Guided Reading happens during Daily 5.
