The primary focus of this course is the development of civilizations in four major geographic areas: Asia, Africa, the Americas and Europe from 476 to 1500 C.E. The course will then trace the evolution of the modern European nation-state and examine the impact of European empires on the world community.
Several examples of topics covered in this course include: world religion, the Fall of Rome, Medieval Europe, the Byzantine Empire, the Islamic World, African Trade Kingdoms, Dynastic China, the Mughal Empire, Feudal Japan, the Renaissance and Reformation, the Age of Exploration, and the Civilizations of the Americas.
