W.I.N.=What I Need ; M,T, W, and Th.-Students are grouped according to their reading/language arts needs for a period of 9 weeks. (Beginning in October)

Reading and Language Arts:  Storytown

The implementation of skills has been rearranged within Storytown to make the progression more develpmentally appropriate for 3rd graders. We will not be going in "lesson order" in the Storytown curriculum and supplemental materials will also be used during the English Language Arts lessons.

DRA's (Developmental Reading Assessments) will be given to all students in 3rd grade to assess the student's "independent" reading level. Their "instructional" level will be slightly higher.

About Spelling/Word Study

Every Day 1, your child will have pretest on a list of third grade spelling words (List A).  The spelling words follow a common spelling pattern or rule.  If your child has two or less incorrect on the pretest, he/she will use the additional set of more challenging words for the five-day period (List B).  If you child is assigned the List B words, he or she is to complete all homework assignments with this set of words.   On Day 5, ALL students will be given a post test ONLY on List A third grade words.  Bonus words will be chosen from List B for extra credit.

Day 1: Pretest List A (Two or less incorrect, assigned List B)

Day 1-5: Homework on either List A or List B

Day 5: Post test List A (bonus taken from List B)
